Don Rhodes, owner and co-founder of Wine Tours of Virginia, quit the corporate world and turned his love of Virginia Wine into a business. Having travelled extensively in French Wine Country and Napa, he discovered Virginia wine in the late 1980's with a bottle of Barboursville Cabernet Sauvignon 1983 Reserve, which he enjoyed at the Boar's Head Inn. After that first bottle, he realized that Virginia can grow and produce premium wines, including vinifera, and he has been an ardent supporter of the industry ever since, having personally visited over 90 of Virginia's 140 wineries.
His years of operations and sales in the corporate world enables him to manage the logistics of guiding the tours, and his devotion to customer service is unparalleled.
In the first year of guiding, you would often find him in a suit on a tour (see photo at right), but we are not a stuffy company; now he wears his madras shorts and sandals! |
