Guests who toured this summer have voted Pollak Vineyards their winery pick of the month. Located in Greenwood, Virginia, just below the beautiful Rockfish and Jarmans Gaps, owners David and Margot Pollak, with the guidance of winemaker Jake Bushing and well-known vineyard manager Chris Hill, Pollak, which only opened to the public on May 17, is already winning awards for their wines. Gone are the days of critics saying that Virginia is unable to produce full-bodied reds. It starts in the vineyard, and Pollak's 25 acres, planted in 2003, benefit from year round breezes coming down from Jarmans Gap, helping to keep the grapes drier than many other sites, both enabling ripeness and reducing the need for spraying. Pollak features only dry wines, including Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Viognier on the white side, and Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot on the red, and including an incredibly complex Meritage.
